Female Psychopaths - Toddler Emotions

"Psychopaths live in a presocialized emotional world. Psychopaths possess an emotional range and depth similar to -- although not identical with -- those of a young toddler prior to sustained interaction with his peers. Emotions that are consciously felt include excitement, rage, boredom, envy, frustration, dysphoria, and shame.  ... The psychopath does not display feelings that necessitate a capacity for attachment. These emotions include anger, guilt, fear, depression, sympathy, empathy, remorse, gratitude, sadness, loneliness, and reciprocal joy -- a range of feelings that is broad, deep, and complex."       --J. Reid Meloy in The Mark of Cain

  1. Dear Winifred Rule
It is with great hope and delight to know of your new book and upcoming tours, presentations. Although not near the Chicago area, would you be also considering your presentations either in Florida, the Carolinas, or even the northeast PA, New York, New England areas in 2017 or 2018? I have been trying to find out why my father and sister have both experienced an early demise, and why my mother seems unaffected by anything at all, and why I have a serious panic disorder with the severe limited ability to fly or drive to this day, the need for therapy and counsel was a major concern for myself and 2 of my other siblings all our lives. There was something in the puzzle I could not work out until I came across Dr Robert Hare's, Dr George K Simons, as well. Now I am making an educated guess your book will help me work out whether I have merely a garden variety narcissist for a mother or really a true psychopath. I am no longer leaning toward the former of the two pieces of the puzzle. What I have witnessed in her behavior, especially following the deaths of her husband and her first born daughter, is so dark and astonishing, it makes mere narcissism a very weak explanation for this individual. Safety from individuals like this as well as knowledge hold power for me. Thank you for writing the book, and for having the confidence to tour.

    1. I schedule library book presentations as a public service and might be able to do one near you if a library requests it. The Ohio presentations have generated nuch interest and drawn many people impacted by psychopaths. I have a New York presentation scheduled for Westhampton, NY, on Sunday, May 7. If you are interested, I will provide details. A presentation in northeast Pennsylvania could certainly be possible. If you would like to contact me by email, my address is winifred.rule@gmail.com.

    2. Thank you for sharing your story. You are on a path of discovery and are doing all the right things to understand your mother's personality disorder. It certainly is possible that she is a psychopath. Many often make the mistake of thinking that only murderers or hardened criminals are psychopaths, but that is so far from the truth. Most psychopaths ruin the lives of those around them and never become adjudicated criminals, but that does not diminish the danger they pose. My book, Born to Destroy, should help you to better understand the way psychopaths operate in the family setting.

I wish you much success as you seek deeper insight. This journey can be very painful, but it is the only path to relief. Sincerely, Winifred
