Psychopaths are not mentally ill. According to Dr. Hare, psychopaths are “rational” and “aware” of what they do. Hare further states: “Their behavior is the result of choice freely exercised.”
But how does one explain that the psychopath has no
capacity to love and lacks remorse? As a
person who studies Christian religious doctrine, the two requirements for
salvation (to get to heaven) are to love God and to love your neighbor. Another fundamental tenet is to be contrite
of heart.
According to psychopathy
experts, the psychopath is capable of neither.
